I think mathematician - unrealistic as I’ve always been terrible at maths - but I’m still completely fascinated by it. I nearly carried on with studies in Native American cultures but ended up teaching English and presently am a counsellor. I wouldn’t change things, but like you I often wonder. If you haven’t read The Midnight Library you might like it - it explores this exact question rather beautifully.
Film director, also film music composer. I think because I like the complexity and multi-disciplinary skills these jobs require, mixing creative, visual, auditory, and storytelling arts.
I love this Chris! And for me it would be a DJ. I have always loved creating my own mixes to create a certain mood. It stared with mixed tapes back in my teenage years. Then I created CDs, which I would gift to friends and family, and I designed the covers. Now I create on Spotify and play with mixing songs on there. I can often listen to a song and hear parts of another song in my head that would sound amazing together.
Making Travel Videos, I left my job 3 years ago to travel and I was the happiest I had ever been. I am now back working for my last employer in the a different role, but knowing I don't want to be here. But due to new health conditions travel is much harder for me now :(
Art heist?! Ha! Love it. My alt life is a restaurant owner—something quaint, something the neighbourhood loves, a place people walk to, an approachable culinary experience designed around creating connections, community and comfort… because that’s what I crave.
In this century? Microbiology, animal sciences (I've never been good at science hypothesis and stuff). Parks and rec but mostly animal habitat restoration.
Im currently working toward my dream job(s), so its a bit hard to choose all the things I wana do that I'm not doing.
I would have been a stand up comedian, a radio DJ/ producer/ podcaster or a gardener. I love making people laugh and bringing joy to peoples life. The idea of earning money that isn't sitting in front of computer appeals!
Chris, professional baseball player was first, but I was disabused of that fantasy around age 12. I toyed with acting lessons, but my toys broke. I would have like to have been involved in film production and also landscape painting and maybe even bartending for the atmosphere and conversation.. But I make my cocktails at home, so that works for me. Air traffic controller—the stress would have left me sleepless.
I’m stealing this Chris. I think I’ll layer this with going 5 Why’s deep on why I would want this… as my ideal vocation. This can be a great self reflection technique. My careers in the past were entirely financially driven due to financial trauma in my past. Now at 51 having sold one company building another I’m doing something for enjoyment-creativity first! I’m building VanLife Campgrounds. This is will help me surround myself with cool people doing cool sh*t!

I had so many career ideas in middle and high school that I daydream about sometimes (marine biologist or photographer) and also love that this question solidifies that I feel aligned with the path I've chosen. it's a really fun question to think about beyond career too
Oh my. So many things. I originally wanted to be a horse vet until I saw Ruffian break her leg at a race. Have always loved science/biology. More random things include 911 operator (but unfortunately a mistake at that job may be too costly), and a tour guide. I love digging into something or someplace and talk endlessly about it. History, like science, keeps revealing things about itself and that would be fun to explore. But, alas, I'm a graphic artist.
